Parents call for peace: Israelis and Palestinians unite over common grief

 After years of dispute Israelis and Palestinians seem to have no middle ground, but those who paid the highest possible price for the conflict have found a way to dialogue. Parents and relatives of those who died in the violence urge peace.The Parents Circle is a grassroots organization bringing together Israelis and Palestinians who lost their loved ones in the long lasting conflict.They meet on a regular basis to talk with one another and show that reconciliation is possible.


'Jews plan to storm Temple Mount on J'lem Day'

A leading Palestinian Muslim cleric has called on Palestinians to "be alert for possible infiltration of fanatic Jews" onto Jeruslaem's Temple Mount during Jerusalem Day celebrations on Sunday, Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported on Saturday, despite a rerouting of the parade by police to avoid Muslim-majority areas.

A suicide bomber detonated a car bomb in eastern Syria on Saturday killing nine people, as G8 leaders called for a "political transition" in Syria and an end to violence that has claimed an estimated 12,000 lives. Clashes between al-Qaeda gunmen and the army have killed 26 people dead near the jihadists’ stronghold of Jaar, and a drone killed two in a strike on a militant vehicle, military and tribal sources said. Eight soldiers were killed and 15 others were wounded” in fighting that included artillery and machinegun fire late on Friday on the outskirts of Jaar, in Yemen’s south, a military official said. A tribal source said “18 Qaeda militants were killed” in the same clashes.

Strong quake strikes North Italy: at least 3 dead 

A 5.9-magnitude tremor has hit northern Italy, reportedly killing at least three people and injuring several others. The earthquake struck some 36 km northwest of the city of Bologna and was followed by a powerful aftershock. Local officials say that one man died in the locality of Bordeno when a warehouse collapsed during the quake. Two others were killed in a cave-in at a ceramics factory in Sant’Agostino di Ferrara. The temblor struck a populated region in the north of the country affecting the cities of Modena, Ferrara, Verona and Mantua.

Upcoming solar eclipse to project 'ring of fire'


(CNN) -- Thousands of people are planning viewing parties for the upcoming annular solar eclipse, a rare event in which the sun will appear as a thin ring behind the moon. The eclipse will begin over Asia on Monday morning, when it will be visible in southern Japan and southern China. In the United States, the eclipse will be visible on a path from northwestern Texas through New Mexico, northeastern Arizona, southern Utah, Nevada, northern California and southwestern Oregon late Sunday.

Netanyahu Responds to Abbas' Letter

Attorney Yitzchak Molcho, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s special envoy, met on Saturday evening in Ramallah with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the Prime Minister's Office announced.During the meeting, Molcho handed Abbas a letter from the Israeli government, according to the PMO.A joint Israel-PA statement produced after the meeting said that “Israel and the PA are committed to achieving peace and the parties hope that the exchange of letters between Abbas and Prime Minister Netanyahu will contribute to this.”

 BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian activists say regime forces killed at least five people during a raid on a northwestern farming village. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said troops torched homes in the village of al-Tamana about 55 kilometers (35 miles) northwest of the city of Hama and put the death toll at five. Activist Mousab Alhamadee said Sunday that residents had recovered six bodies after the raid the day before.The attack followed anti-regime protests, and one of the dead was a rebel leader, he said.

 Senior Afghan peace negotiator shot dead in Kabul

KABUL (Reuters) - Gunmen shot dead a top Afghan peace negotiator in the capital Kabul on Sunday, police said, dealing another blow to the country's attempts to negotiate a peace deal with the Taliban.
Maulvi Arsala Rahmani was one of the most senior members on Afghanistan's High Peace Council, set up by President Hamid Karzai two years ago to liaise with insurgents."He (Rahmani) was stuck in heavy traffic when another car beside him opened fire," said General Mohammad Zahir, head of the investigations unit for Kabul police.
