UN Demands Syrian Government Stop Violence

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon demanded on Thursday that the Syrian government immediately comply with its commitment to withdraw troops and heavy weapons from cities and towns.The Associated Press quoted UN deputy spokesman Eduardo del Buey as having said that Ban is “deeply troubled” about reports from UN military observers that military equipment and army personnel remain in populated areas in violation of Syria’s pledge to pull them out.

Fourteen people killed and 39 injured in bombings across Iraq

 A suicide car bombing near a cafe and another bomb attack inside it killed ten people in central Iraq on Thursday, while bomb attacks in Baghdad killed four others, security officials said. The suicide bomber attacked a cafe in the village of Garma, north of Baquba in Diyala province, police Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed al-Karkhi said. A second bomb exploded inside the cafe as dead and wounded were being carried out, Karkhi said, according to AFP.

 IDF chief: Other nations could strike Iran

Israel's military chief said Thursday that other countries have readied their armed forces for a potential strike against Iran's nuclear sites to keep Tehran from acquiring atomic weapons.Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz did not specify which nations might be willing to support or take direct action against Iran. Still, his comments were one of the strongest hints yet that Israel may have the backing of other countries to strike the Islamic Republic to prevent it from developing nuclear arms.

Mysterious green clouds have been spotted over the Russian capital, sparking fears of a chemical disaster and even some doomsday theories.­But the Emergencies Ministry is advising the public to calm down. It says the clouds are actually composed of birch pollen, not of chemicals from an allegedly burning factory in the Moscow region, as some reported.Some people, however, got so scared that even the official comments could not convince them.

April 26, 2012Long Valley, CAA series of 8 tremors have erupted at the Long Valley super-volcano caldera over the last 24 hours- two yesterday, and six tremors today. The tremors today were a 1.1 mag (3.2 km), a 2.5 mag (4.5 km), a 1.6 mag (4.5 km), a 1.2 mag (2.8 km), a 1.5 mag (7.9 km) and a 1.3 mag at (3.7 km). Terrorists Fire Rocket at Southern Israel

As Israelis celebrated the Jewish State’s 64th Independence Day, terrorists from Gaza fired a rocket at the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council late on Wednesday night.The rocket exploded in an open area. No physical injuries or damages were reported.The rocket attack comes after terrorists fired a pair of rockets into southern Israel on Monday afternoon.  One fell in the Ashkelon Regional Council, while the other fell in the Shaar Hanegev

President Shimon Peres is not a fan of the narrative led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when it comes to Iran and the Holocaust – to put it mildly.The comparisons to 1939 and Hilter do not sit will with him, either. Syria opposition forces said Thursday that 102 people were killed by President Bashar Assad's security forces in the previous day, indicating that this figure included 57 civilians killed during shelling of one neighborhood in the city of Hama.Reports of killings in Syria have continued to stream out of the war-torrn state, despite a UN-led attempt to bring a halt to the government's ongoing crackdown of opposition forces and activists.

Wildlife investigators look for clues in mystery of Ohio fish kill

April 26, 2012 OHIOThe Ohio Division of Wildlife got a call on Sunday from a fisherman who told the agency they should probably come see the flood of fish carcasses in the Rocky River. When they arrived, they discovered a waterway filled with dead aqua life. The fish kill is still under investigation. Today, the ODW announced the final death toll: 28,613 fish, along with other species. But the process of counting the dead was merely the first step. 
 


Lava from Puu Oo spreads over coastal plain

April 26, 2012HAWAII - Lava flows from Puu Oo vent are spreading over the coastal plain in Kalapana and over the weekend entered the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. But the flows are still about a half-mile from the ocean. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory released new lava photos taken Monday that show slow-moving breakouts of pahoehoe lava, with the characteristic look of bunched up rope as it cools.

 Pakistan successfully tested a nuclear-capable ballistic missile on Wednesday. The launch comes less than a week after Islamabad’s main adversary India tested a long-range ballistic missile of its own.
­Pakistan’s missile Shaheen-1A was reportedly shot southward to the Indian Ocean and managed to cover some 4,000-4,500 kilometers. This is enough to target any object on Indian territory.
Pakistan notified its neighbors of plans to perform a launch a day before the event, saying the test would take place between April 24 and 29.

 Palestinians fire two rockets into southern Israel

Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired two rockets into rural areas of southern Israel on Monday. One rocket slammed into a field in the Ashkelon Regional Council, failing to cause injuries. A second landed in the neighboring Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council.The second rocket failed to trigger the Red Alert warning system, and no siren was sounded in the area prior to the falling of the projectile. Authorities were investigating the reason for the failure.

Israel legalizes 3 settlement outposts, adding more obstacles to Mideast peace

Israeli has legalized the status of three settlement outposts in the West Bank, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement issued on Tuesday. At a meeting late Monday, a ministerial committee “decided to formalize the status of three communities which were established in the 1990s following the decisions of past governments,” said the statement, according to AFP.

At least 80 people were killed Monday in Syria, 50 of them in Hama and 21 in Idlib, according the Local Coordination Committees of Syria, a network of opposition activists.

Ruling military chief vows to defend Egypt’s border with Israel


Egypt’s military ruler said on Monday the armed forces would defend the borders with Israel if necessary, state media reported after an Israeli official voiced concerns about relations between the two neighbors. Ties between Egypt and Israel have been strained since a popular uprising toppled President Hosni Mubarak, who had put a peace treaty with Israel at the center of his regional policy. Israel has also said it was concerned by a security vacuum in Egypt’s Sinai region on its border.

Indonesia’s Mount Lokon volcano erupts

April 24, 2012 INDONESIA - North Sulawesi’s Mount Lokon erupted at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, after several days of increased activity, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has announced. The height at which lava shot out of the volcano was unknown because clouds were blocking the full view. The agency declared areas within a 2.5 kilometers radius from the mountain’s peak dangerous and urged nearby residents to stay alert. 


 Ecuador’s Tungurahua volcano blows its top- raining down gravel in neaby town

 April 23, 2012 ECUADOROver the weekend, the Tungurahua’s volcanic eruption had a strong explosion that caused gravel to fall down in the nearby town of Pillate, Ecuador. The explosion, characterized by its loud “cannon ball shot”, was immediately detected by locals and scientists observing the volcano’s progress. The explosion was later followed by a slight tremor and a constant pulsation of “high energy” said reports.
