UN Demands Syrian Government Stop Violence

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon demanded on Thursday that the Syrian government immediately comply with its commitment to withdraw troops and heavy weapons from cities and towns.The Associated Press quoted UN deputy spokesman Eduardo del Buey as having said that Ban is “deeply troubled” about reports from UN military observers that military equipment and army personnel remain in populated areas in violation of Syria’s pledge to pull them out.

 DARAA, Syria - During the day, a terrifying calm settles in the old town of this city. The streets are deserted. Shops are closed. Stones, burning tires, broken glass and concrete bricks from last night's battle litter the streets. Heavily armed soldiers are guarding their tight network of checkpoints. They hide behind sandbags next to their tanks, pointing their automatic weapons at the few who dare to roam around.

Fourteen people killed and 39 injured in bombings across Iraq

 A suicide car bombing near a cafe and another bomb attack inside it killed ten people in central Iraq on Thursday, while bomb attacks in Baghdad killed four others, security officials said. The suicide bomber attacked a cafe in the village of Garma, north of Baquba in Diyala province, police Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed al-Karkhi said. A second bomb exploded inside the cafe as dead and wounded were being carried out, Karkhi said, according to AFP.

 IDF chief: Other nations could strike Iran

Israel's military chief said Thursday that other countries have readied their armed forces for a potential strike against Iran's nuclear sites to keep Tehran from acquiring atomic weapons.Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz did not specify which nations might be willing to support or take direct action against Iran. Still, his comments were one of the strongest hints yet that Israel may have the backing of other countries to strike the Islamic Republic to prevent it from developing nuclear arms.

‘US not ready to wage war against Iran’

Despite conflicting statements from top Israeli officials on Iran’s nuclear program, the threat of war remains high. US Colonel Douglas McGregor told RT that after an Israeli strike, Tehran won’t need to build nuclear bombs - it will be given them. Russia Today: President Obama has put forward an ultimatum for Iran: either make progress with negotiators or face consequences, meaning war. Some say a strike [on Iran] may happen within the next few months. In your opinion, how realistic is that? Should we expect a war in summer?

 Green clouds over Moscow spark disaster fears (VIDEO, PHOTOS)


Mysterious green clouds have been spotted over the Russian capital, sparking fears of a chemical disaster and even some doomsday theories.­But the Emergencies Ministry is advising the public to calm down. It says the clouds are actually composed of birch pollen, not of chemicals from an allegedly burning factory in the Moscow region, as some reported.Some people, however, got so scared that even the official comments could not convince them.


New dangers and earthquake risks found in Washington

Major volcanoes of Antarctica: “Underwater volcanism is also sublimating portions of the Antarctica ice mass from underneath. In 2004, a research team led by Eugene Domack, aboard the research vessel Lawrence M. Gould, made a remarkable discovery of a massive underwater volcano off the coast of Antarctica using a deep water submersible vehicle equipped with a cadre of sensors and video cameras. The volcano was 2300 feet (700 meters) tall.

 Swarm: Long Valley caldera rattled by small series of tremors

April 26, 2012Long Valley, CAA series of 8 tremors have erupted at the Long Valley super-volcano caldera over the last 24 hours- two yesterday, and six tremors today. The tremors today were a 1.1 mag (3.2 km), a 2.5 mag (4.5 km), a 1.6 mag (4.5 km), a 1.2 mag (2.8 km), a 1.5 mag (7.9 km) and a 1.3 mag at (3.7 km). This could be the beginning of a swarm so we’ll keep monitoring events and look for updates. The Extinction Protocol
