Abbas' Letter to Netanyahu: PA Lost its 'Raison D'etre'

 Israel’s actions have stripped the Palestinian Authority of its “raison d'etre”, creating a reality which cannot continue, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas will say in a letter to Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, AFP reported on Sunday.The French news agency’s report was based on a copy it saw of the letter. Abbas recently revealed some of the letter's contents in a speech in Cairo.

UN cease-fire monitors arrive in Syria, as heavy clashes erupt on Turkey border


An advance team of six UN observers arrived in Damascus on Monday to monitor Syria's 4-day-old cease-fire, according to a spokesman for international envoy Kofi Annan, as heavy clashes reportedly broke out on the Syria-Turkey border between the Syrian army and opposition forces.Spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said the remaining 25 observers are expected to arrive days from now. Suleiman Warns Against War with Israel if Brotherhood Wins

A day after he was barred from the Egyptian presidential race, the country’s former intelligence chief warned Sunday against a win by the extreme Muslim Brotherhood. Netanyahu: Talks with Iran Have Given it a 'Freebie'


Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu addressed on Sunday the latest round of talks between Iran and six world powers, which were held in Turkey over the weekend.Netanyahu, who met with U.S. Senator (ID-CT) Joe Lieberman, warned against Iran using the opportunity to advance its nuclear weapons program.On Saturday, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, said the talks have been constructive and that the sides will meet again in Baghdad on May 23.

Deadly tornadoes wallop Midwest

A large part of the town in the western part of the state was destroyed Saturday night, possibly by a tornado, but no one was injured or killed. Fremont County Emergency Management Director Mike Crecelius said about 75 percent of the 250-person town was destroyed.



Mexico’s sleeping Popocatépetl volcano awakens again

April 16, 2012MEXICO CITYPopocatépetl, the nearly 18,000 foot volcano that hovers like a sentinel on the southeastern fringe of Mexico’s capital, awakened again Sunday, punctuating an especially shaky seismic season. Popo, as the mountain is widely called, spewed at least seven exhalations overnight Saturday and through the day Sunday, sending vapor, smoke and gas billowing into the clear sky. The most serious occurred just after 9 a.m. Sunday, sending a vapor cloud a mile into the air.





Two volcanoes in Costa Rica now reporting increased activity

 April 16, 2012 COSTA RICAThursday last the Turrialba sent experts scurrying to analyze the recent activity at the colossus southeast of San José. On Saturday, however, the Volcán Rincón de la Vieja, decided on a rumble of its own. It was around 2pm when residents heard the rumbles from the volcano located north of San José in the province of Guanacaste. Maria Martinez, volcanologist from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), explained that the phreatic eruption occurred at the lake and spewed water and sediment over the outer edge on the north side of the volcano. 

Drought in England could last until Christmas

April 16, 2012 ENGLAND - A drought affecting parts of England could last until after Christmas, Britain’s environment agency warned on Monday, as rain over the spring and summer is unlikely to replenish low water levels. In a country more usually associated with damp and drizzle, drought has been declared in seventeen counties in England’s southeast and central regions, after two dry winters left rivers and ground waters depleted.
