 New IAF chief: We're ready for anything 

 Maj.-Gen. Amir Eshel officially took office as Israel's new Air Force commander Thursday. Eshel will replace Major-General Ido Nehushtan, who is retiring from IDF service after 37 years. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen Benny Gantz thanked Nehushtan for his service and welcomed Eshel into office: "We have the best air force in the world. It shoulders a strategic and significant responsibility," he said.

At least 55 killed, nearly 200 wounded in Damascus blasts


Twin bomb blasts in the Syrian Al Qazzaz Neighborhood of Damascus killed 55 people and wounded more than 200, Syrian state television said on Thursday.The blasts, which ripped the facade off a military intelligence building, occurred around 7:50 a.m., when employees are usually arriving at work. An Associated Press reporter at the scene said medical workers were collecting human remains from the streets after the explosions and heavily damaged cars and pickup trucks stood smoldering in the area.

The United States is worried that Shaul Mofaz and his Kadima party’s joining a unity government with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu could result in an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities at any given moment, according to a report on Channel 10 News on Thursday.U.S. government officials told Channel 10 News that they believe a Likud-Kadima joing government could make a decision about an Israeli attack on Iran at any moment and perhaps even before the U.S. presidential elections in November.

 Is Japan’s Mt. Fuji a ticking time-bomb?

 May 11, 2012 JAPAN – An active fault as long as 30 km may lie directly beneath Mount Fuji, a team of researchers has said in a recent survey report. The possible fault was detected through a simulated earthquake conducted during a crustal survey over a distance of around 34 km from Fujiyoshida in Yamanashi Prefecture to Susono in Shizuoka Prefecture, said Hiroshi Sato, professor at the Earthquake Research Institute at the University of Tokyo.

 Persecuted church: Stop removing 'Son of God' from Bibles

A new Bible translation that alters references to God as “Father” and Jesus as “Son of God” is “unacceptable and unusable,” charge representatives of the Alliance of Protestant Churches in Turkey.
“As leaders of local Protestant churches,” the leaders said they find “the misleading translations of these very important and foundational New Testament terms to be wrong and extremely adverse.”
