Rocket hits Israeli town of Eilat, no damage or injury: Officials

Israeli police authorities reported that a “Grad rocket” hit a construction site in Eilat during the early minutes of Thursday local time (around 2100 GMT on Wednesday), AFP reported.The rocket, “which was fired from Egypt… did not cause any injuries or damage,” the authorities said.Military officials of the Israeli regime also confirmed the incident, reiterating that there were “no victims or damage.”



‘Not a country’: ICC blocks Palestine war crimes probe

The ICC has refused Palestine’s bid for an investigation into the Israeli military offensive on the Gaza strip on the basis that Palestine is not a recognized state. Human rights groups have strongly criticized the move, while Israel has praised it.A prosecutor from the International Criminal Court said the investigation would get the go ahead only if the UN or its Security Council recognizes Palestine as a state.

Russia's Lavrov Warns Against Arming Syrian Opposition

Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, warned other nations again on Wednesday not to arm the Syrian opposition, saying it would only escalate hostilities. Speaking during a trip to Azerbaijan, Lavrov was quoted by The Associated Press as having said the Syrian opposition wouldn’t be able to overwhelm government forces even if it was supplied with weapons from abroad.



Syrian troops attack towns across country

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian troops launched assaults on several towns across the country on Thursday, activists said. The offensives appeared to be a push by President Bashar Assad's forces to make gains on the ground ahead of a cease-fire next week.The latest violence comes despite Assad's agreement to implement the cease-fire starting Tuesday. The truce is the keystone of a plan put forward by Kofi Annan, the joint U.N.-Arab League envoy, aimed at ending the country's yearlong crisis that according to the U.N. has claimed the lives of more than 9,000 people.


Clashes, shelling and raids erupted across Syria on Wednesday, as high-level diplomats worked to foster peace in the restive country. Syrian activist groups reported government-instigated violence in the provinces of Homs, Idlib, the Damascus countryside and Deir Ezzor. At least 61 people were killed on Wednesday across Syria, the opposition Local Coordination Committees of Syria said.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Iran on Wednesday that time was not “infinite” for diplomacy on its nuclear program and that “all options remain on the table” after a dispute over the venue of talks.




Western sanctions against Iran nuclear work failed: Iranian envoy

The West has imposed sanctions against Iran in a bid to create division between Iranians and the government, and to halt Tehran’s nuclear energy program, Kazem Gharib Abadi told the Nedelands Dagblad daily. He said that the sanctions have, however, failed to undermine Iran’s nuclear energy program as it relies on indigenous expertise and does not depend on foreign assistance.
